Sun Traitors are an alternative/hard rock band based in Melbourne, Australia. Combining elements of rock, grunge, metal and prog, the group are becoming known for their high energy live shows – expect a plethora of riffs, solos, anthemic choruses and a little Venezuelan flare on the skins.
Establishing themselves with their debut release in 2018, Sun Traitors have been a mainstay in Melbourne’s live music scene, the partnership of Jim Charlemagne (lead vocals/guitars) and Iggy Torres (drums/backing vocals) has produced multiple alternative/hard rock releases over the past few years with their debut self titled release dropping 2018 followed up by 2020’s EP DARK MATTER, the later securing local and international airplay and cementing their position within the roster of live acts not to be missed in Melbourne.
New single THE MAZE (released 27.01.23) is the latest in a trilogy of offerings since a lineup change occurred early 2022, with each of the three releases the lads have taken a step further down a more powerful and focused course. CROSSROADS kicked off the new series of singles in May of 2022 followed by FAN THE FLAMES in October, THE MAZE rounds out the trilogy of fresh output with intense energy and a hard hitting melodic chorus.
Possessing a love for a multitude of genres and styles and eager to write about meaningful topics, it’s an understatement to suggest that Iggy and Jim have been on an interesting course of musical evolution since their first single and live shows. With the pandemic putting serious strains on the Melbourne music and art scene, the guys knuckled down to hone in on their songwriting and the recent trilogy of singles are full of maturity and confidence.
THE MAZE is a high intensity journey through confusing situations, revolving targets and Orwellian suspicion. The lyrics describe having to tread lightly as everything is yours to lose. Intricate drumming amplifies the catchy guitar hooks though-out the song and the vocal melody is engaging and soulful. THE MAZE is a personal journey we can all relate to and it is the band’s most melodic track to date.
